The Bank of New Madrid has received information from its card processor,
SHAZAM, a "mishing" fraud attack is targeting cardholders. The attack
consists of a text message sent to mobile phones stating "Notice: Issues
Found On Your Shazam 551729XX Visacard. Please Call 13035780902!" This
number currently hosts an automated recording demanding the entry of the
PAN. Additional confidential information is then requested from the
cardholder. These calls are fraudulent and have not been authorized by
SHAZAM. As of 9:00 a.m. CT 11/8/2010, SHAZAM has had this number
disabled through the local service provider.
Remember, never disclose information about your debit card in response
to an unsolicited email or text message over your phone. Email is a
common channel for fraud perpetration and now it appears text messaging
is becoming a common channel, as well. Never provide your debit or
credit card number, PIN or any other non-public personal information to
any entity in response to an unsolitited email or other type of request.
Your financial institution will never ask you for your PIN.
